Crackin' Up (Licorice Tree)

Reach down into this gutbucket of streetwise roots blues and whaddaya get? Muddy water rising with a wolf howl and tongue-in-cheek hogjaw roots. Add a taste of first-wave punk, and stir with a sharp stick in the eye of tradition. South Filthy's wicked brew won't go down easy, but these Diddley daddies are more than happy to spoonfeed it down your burning throat and leave you quivering like Oliver Twist saying, "Please, sir, may I have more?" The Austin-Memphis conglomeration of Msr. Jeffrey Evans, Walter Daniels, Jack Yarber, Mike Buck, and Rice Moorehead strap on additional ammunition with Eugene Chadbourne ("Flaming Star"), Dan Brown, Ron Franklin, Earl Poole Ball, and a slew of others while aiming for the gut. Turn up Daniels' hellbound harp on "Screwdriver," Tom T. Hall's waltzy sing-along "I Like Beer," Bo Diddley's beefy title track, and the early-era Stonesy "(So You Think) You Got Trouble." Join in on their rendition of the Hickoids' answer to "London Homesick Blues" with "Brand New Way of Living" ("drink Budweiser every day and show the girls our peckers") or holla to the Zeroes' SoCal punk anthem "You're a Wimp." Wade in the water. (Saturday, March 18, 8pm @ Buffalo Billiards)
