RTX Austin is this weekend, and tens of thousands of Rooster Teeth fans will flood the city. But for those of you who don't know what an RTX is, here's your basic guide.
1: RTX is Rooster Teeth’s yearly convention here in Austin. Rooster Teeth is a local production company famous for Red vs Blue, American anime RWBY, and more.
2: RTX is not your average comic con. Your neighborhood conventions do a great job hitting many fandoms – the shotgun approach. RTX focuses specifically on the Rooster Teeth family and all associated with it. Over 60,000 fans from around the world come to RTX Austin every year to celebrate something they love.
3: Rooster Teeth puts on a packed weekend. There are panels covering every fandom under the RT umbrella and then some. Panels for Achievement Hunter, RWBY, cosplay, animation, production, and more cover the three-day event. Achievement Haunter will be showing new footage, RT Docs (responsible for fan-friendly documentaries like Becoming Jessica Nigri) will be screening their latest creation, and comedy horror Blood Fest returns to Austin after premiering at SXSW.
4: Lost? Confused? FOMO? The official RTX app has the full schedule of panels and nighttime activities. Download it now on Google Play and iTunes.
5: It's called RTX Austin for a reason. There are sister RTXs in London and Sydney, but this is the hometown show. Various Rooster Teeth shows namedrop local businesses, and RTX Austin is the perfect time to visit some. That official RTX app also lists places personally recommended by Rooster Teeth regulars, and many of the must-go locations are within walking distance of the Convention Center. Plus, check out RT co-founder Burnie Burns' guide to eating Austin during RTX.
6: Don't miss the expo floor. That's where all the exhibitor booths are, and where you will find brands like gaming hardware firm Razer, YouTube smash How It Should Have Ended, gamer clothing brand Filthy Casual, Mega64, and dozens more. You can find some true treasures for sale. If you are hoping to bump into RT talent, the expo floor is also a good place to hang around.
7: The community is what makes RTX special. Lifelong online friends meet in real life, new friendships are made, and nowhere else will you feel such a sense of unity. While you are in the lines for panels, talk to the people around you. You already have one thing in common with every person at RTX, you’re a fan of Rooster Teeth. The fans are warm, welcoming, and accepting. Don’t be afraid to reach out and say hello, you might end up making some friends.
RTX Austin truly is greater than the sum of its parts. Everything comes together to create a wondrous event. There is something for everyone and all are welcome.RTX Austin 2018
