Alamo Drafthouse to Screen All 11 Star Wars Films at Village

Summer of Star Wars includes special trilogy screenings

The Saga Continues: The film series set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away comes to a cinema near you as the Alamo Drafthouse announces its own Star Wars Celebration, with all 11 theatrically-released live action Star Wars films being screened at the Alamo Village

There's a great disturbance in the force coming for movie fans. This summer, the Alamo Drafthouse will be hosting screenings of all 11 live-action theatrically-released Star Wars films, from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker at its Village location in Austin

Wait, all 11 films? Yes, not only will the theatre be screening all nine movies that make up the Skywalker Saga, but there will also be screenings of the two theatrical movies released as a Star Wars story: Rogue One and Solo. Not only that, but there will be special trilogy screenings of all three screenings. Tickets go on sale 12pm, Friday, May 3, at drafthouse.com/starwars.

(And before anyone gets snippy, yes, we know, there are technically 14 Star Wars films, but neither Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure or Ewoks: The Battle for Endor got a US theatrical release, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars was just episodes of the animated TV series re-edited into feature form.)

The season of George Lucas' unmatched epic of adventure set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away continues the Drafthouse's transformation of its oldest location into a repertory theatre, just in time for the building's 50th anniversary as a working multiscreen cinema. Yes, the local dinner-and-a-movie innovators may have taken Village over as their second site in 2001, but it was opened in 1974 as the Village 4, part of the Presidio Theatres chain.

“In December 1977, the original Star Wars opened at the Village 4 in glorious Dolby Stereo,” says John Smith, senior film programmer for Alamo Drafthouse. “Forty-seven years later, we’re finishing the story and sharing the complete saga with Austin audiences.”

The theatre is now being revamped for the celebration, complete with a refitted lobby, and will become the home to the old Vulcan Video collection as the Drafthouse opens its newest Video Vortex free movie rental location.
