The Latino Comedy Project: Gentrifucked
After sold-out performances from Austin to San Francisco, Emmy-nominated sketch troupe the Latino Comedy Project returns with an encore presentation of their acclaimed show Gentrifucked, once again hilariously attacking the causes and consequences of gentrification as it affects Austin and communities across America. The LCP asks: What happens when a community’s piñata shops are demolished and replaced with cat-friendly vegan coffeehouses? When neighborhood pulgas are transformed overnight into luxury condos? Or when Mexicans are replaced with obsessively dog-walking paddleboard enthusiasts?Through a bright mix of live sketches, music, and original videos, the LCP provides all the hard answers and leaves no one – no one! – unscathed. Directed by Adrian Villegas, the cast of writer-performers also includes Cindy Brio, Omar Gallaga, Thelma Rosana, Mical Trejo, and Nick Walker.Through Jan. 28. Thu.-Sat., 8pm. $22-27. -

Esther's Follies
Just in time for the political storm kicking up from Washington to our own Capitol, the talented comic crew at Esther’s have cooked up a topical tiramisu – delicious and sort of hard to make on your own so just let the experts do it, you know? From their rat-a-tat hot takes on Hunter Biden’s pardon – Breaking! A father loves his son! – to satirical skits on AI in health care where “R.F.K. Jr. even makes an appearance to weigh in,” there’s a little ha-ha here for all stars and stripes. Plus the spectacular Ray Anderson stuns once again with a new illusion, “In Love With a Monster,” that stands next to old standards like magic mirrors, explosive cannons, and disappearing assistants. Ride the Wave
This new play by Mattie Barber-Bockelman is about "three bros searching for an epic surf on the last day of summer." In the multimedia performance, set in a loosely imagined 2060s rich with vibes, grooves, and laughter, a group of young women riff on the surfer bro trope to examine how friendship, the pursuit of freedom, and growing up will be affected by climate catastrophe. Davis Gallery: Bouff! The Big Tease
New work by B.
