'NYT' Weighs In on the ATX
Times on the Austin development explosion
By Wells Dunbar, 1:48PM, Wed. Feb. 14, 2007
Finally - prowling the Austin Neighborhood Council message board pays off. It was that list that directed your humble blogger to this article from Monday's New York Times: "It's Also the Texas Capital of Construction." (Do I detect another subliminal dis in their reference to the Texas capital, following their pointed refusal to give us "live music capital of the world" accolades?)
Retelling the story of Las Manitas, the article quotes our boy Brewster McCracken saying, "As we redevelop, we want to make sure we don't lose the great things that make Austin unique."
It's nice to see the goldrush-clusterfuck of Austin real estate and development is certifiably schizoid enough to get the Gray Lady to notice.
