One in a Crowd: Among the Dead

Local zombie horror needs brains ... make that crowdfunding

"Hi there, can I interest you in a crowdfunding opportunity for new Austin horror movie Among the Dead? We have all kinds of great incentives, like brains, t-shirts, brains, coffee mugs, and brains."

Zombies: Fast or slow, intelligent or dumb, the one aspect they all share is that they won't stay dead. And some times, a zombie film just won't stay dead either.

Case in point: Austin-lensed undead apocalypse flick Among the Dead. Writer/director William Instone has a stack of horror shorts under his belt, but now he's working on his first feature, a tale of the zombie apocalypse. Earlier this year, he and his crew set a very ambitious crowdfunding target of $50,000, and sadly missed that. This time, they're back with a much more manageable $5,000, and they're almost 50% of the way to those delicious brains, erm, funding target.

Among the Dead is one of a slate of films on Indiegogo promoted with the Austin Film Society (previous projects have included Emily Hagins' My Sucky Teen Romance, animated short "The Oceanmaker", and the New York premiere of SXSW 2014 title Ping Pong Summer). If you're eager to keep an eye on Austin projects looking for crowdfunding, bookmark the AFS Indiegogo page.

Here's a short proof-of-concept teaser for Among the Dead, plus a pitch from Instone and producer Matt Riffley. If you like what you see, then help them reach their new target through their Indiegogo page, and follow the project on Facebook and Twitter. Even without the funding, they'll still keep working on the movie, but your help could get it to screens a lot quicker.
