Has the Libertarian Party dismissed copy editing as yet another oppressive form of regulation? In an e-mail announcing its upcoming Bill of Rights rally in Wooldridge Square, the local chapter refers to itself as the "Livertarian Party," and names a place called "Capital Hill." (Then again, considering how much capital lobbyists shuffle off to our Congressional representatives, the Libs have a point.) The rally begins at 1pm on Saturday, July 20 -- presumably without liver -- and features several speakers, including Geoffrey Neale, Austin software executive and newly christened chair of the national party. For more info, contact Robert "Rock" Howard, [email protected], 453-5942.

And speaking of those busy Liberteerians, the Central Texas chapter will sponsor a free talk by Texas ACLU Executive Director Will Harrell on John Ashcroft's crusade against civil liberties, post-9/11 legislation, and administrative actions. Sunday, July 21, 4-6pm at the LCRA Building, 3700 Lake Austin Blvd. For more info, call Rick McGinnis at 413-5928.

Travis County Commissioner Karen Sonleitner and engineer Charles Riou of the Texas Department of Transportation will speak at MoNAC's (MoPac Neighborhood Associations Coalition) next meeting about MoPac, Tuesday, July 23 at 6:30pm, Westminster Manor (4100 Jackson). Sonleitner will provide an update on the progress of the Regional Mobility Authority, and Riou will discuss HOV lane design.

Thanks to a grant from OSHA, the city of Austin will hold a "conflict to consensus" workshop on July 26 for employees of small and minority businesses who wish to better manage workplace conflict and increase their productivity. To RSVP (and you must, by July 23), call 974-7806 or e-mail [email protected]; the workshop costs $5 and runs 9am-noon, 2800 Spirit of Texas.
