Mondo Gets Original

New show eschews brands and franchises

If Mondo is known for two things, it's prints and pop culture. From Steamboat Willie to Game of Thrones via Mullholland Drive, they've screenprinted them all. With their latest show, artists are let loose with their own imaginations for "Originals: A Fine Art Show," and we've got an exclusive first look at a new work by João Ruas.

Explaining the show, Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam described the gallery as "off-limits" to any established franchises or recognizable brands this month. "We've become known for showcasing artistic interpretations of licensed properties, but we also want people to know that these same artists are sometimes even more exciting when they are presenting their own narrative."

Mixing prints with unique pieces, "Originals" includes a coterie of Mondo regulars, including Aaron Horkey, Rob Jones, Jason Edmiston, and Kilian Eng, plus some less familiar faces, including Nicolas Delort, Vanessa Foley, Alex Pardee, and Jessica Seamans.
