Film Flam

A Twitter script, a covert film, and a blood drive fill this edition of Film Flam.

• On Monday, June 17, the Blood Center of Central Texas is hosting a blood drive at the Paramount Theatre (713 Congress) from 4 to 7pm. Since the event is called There Will Be a Blood Drive, it's only fitting that a screening of the P.T. Anderson feature screens right afterward at 7:15pm. Sign up here to donate blood, or just buy tickets ($6-10) at the Paramount.

• Longtime Austinite Kyle Henry's Fourplay is now on DVD ($11.95) and streaming ($3.99). Read more about the film in Brandon Watson's February piece, or just head straight to the film's website to pick up your copy.

• Former Chronicle receptionist Roxanne Hilburn was in touch last week to share the news of her latest project, @TWEETINGSCRIPT. They say the hardest part of learning to write well is writing tight, and there's nothing like a 140-character limit to really force that skill early and often. Hilburn tweeted all this week from Austin, but her third act is coming to you from Los Angeles soon. Get caught up and then follow along at @TWEETINGSCRIPT.

• "Vultures of Tibet" a Student Academy Award-nominated short film from Austin filmmaker Russell O. Bush is heading on tour. Shot surreptitiously two summers ago in Tibet, before the crackdown in travel restrictions, the film "reveals the recent commercialization of a sacred TIbetan funeral tradition known as Sky Burial where the bodies of human dead are fed to wild griffon vultures." We have a feeling you have to see it to believe it, which works out nicely for some: It's touring internationally this month, including at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International ShortFest, and the Texas Filmmakers Showcase.
