There's nothing the Net loves more than to speculate wildly about tech rumors. But when Google sends out a media invitation to "a very important announcement that will have a positive impact on Austinites and the future of the city," we can't blame you for guessing.
Already, websites like VentureBeat and Verge are making guesses about what the news could be. Theories range from an expansion of Google Fiber – the gigabit Internet service that premiered in Kansas City – to a new campus in the city limits.
Neither is out of the realm of possibility, but both would likely just signal the beginning of a very long process. We assure you, we'll let you know as soon as we know more. For now, it's just news that there will be news. Welcome to the machine.
