AGFA hires new director

Or, if your Mandarin isn't up to par, it's the Shaw Brothers, Hong Kong's wonder twins of chopsocky filmmaking, whose punchy oeuvre is now overseen in Austin by the new Director of the American Genre Film Archive, Oliver Franklin.

Oliver's kung fu is strong: "As for the new Director, formerly the Executive Curator for Public Programs at UT-Austin's Harry Ransom Center," the AFGA press release says, "the opportunity to celebrate these films is a dream come true. “Nothing appeals to me more than opening people’s eyes to the amazing talent—the art—that these films so exuberantly display,” Franklin says. “There are many ways we can bring these gems to the public, to build and protect the collection, and raise awareness of their importance and their unique brio. I am honored by this challenge.”

Sounds to us like we're due for some seriously martial mayhem. Bring it on if you're Shaolin enough.
