The Daily Hustle: 4/15/10

Hooray for council-free Thursdays

Potpourri … get it?
Potpourri … get it?

TDH begins right after I cancel this City Council meeting …

… Lots of great stuff in the Chronicle this week, much expanded or distilled from this space. City Hall Hustle delves into the Eastside discordance over the use of Holly “good neighbor” funds, and there's another piece from yours truly describing the new conservative Astroturfing group Carole Keeton Strayhorn's formed to oppose changes to Austin Energy's generation mix. Tying the two together, In Fact Daily reports the Austinites for Action press conference last week was attended by none other than … Gavino Fernandez and Paul Hernandez. The Totescast has even more.

… Elsewhere, there's wrap-ups on last week's controversy over minority firefighter recruitment at the Austin Fire Department, council's “crisis pregnancy center” ordinance, this Tuesday's run-off elections, and so much more. Have at it!

What the hell else is happening?

No City Council today, so Capital Metro clutters up the city calendar. The board’s executive search committee convenes at 9:30am. Then a special called meeting of the whole board is held at 11:30am, to discuss interlocal agreements with the city. Then at noon, there’s a public hearing on their proposed August service changes. It’s all at the Cap Metro Offices, 2910 E. Fifth.

The Housing Authority meets at Chalmers Courts Apartments, 1801 E. Fourth, at noon. Among other topics, they’ll take up “the financial status of all programs administered by the Housing Authority.”

The Urban Forestry Board holds a special called meeting in the Parks and Recreation Department Board Room, 200 S. Lamar, at 6:30pm. Up for discussion and possible action is expanding the species list in the Heritage Tree Ordinance.
