After battling with esophageal cancer for two years, veteran Austin Police Dept. Sgt. Kenny Wilson died today. He was 55.
APD Chief Art Acevedo earlier this week honored Wilson, a Bomb Squad Unit supervisor, with the Distinguished Command Medal, one of the department's highest honors.
"Kenny was the epitome of professionalism," Acevedo said in a press release. "He showed that every day we have is a blessing. Kenny touched many lives both inside and outside the [APD]. His smile, courage and spirit will never be forgotten."
