Nolan Potter Becomes the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in New Video

Prog-psych composer battles creepy reaper in “Caberfae Peaks”

Dude, look at my hand: the cave master and Nolan Potter in “Caberfae Peaks”

From labyrinthine compositions to galvanizing live performances, Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band never falls short of epic. No surprise, then, that the local lysergic prog octet’s debut video, an extended version of their track “Caberfae Peaks,” arrives as a 10-minute supernatural adventure story.

The clip unfolds with Potter being chased by ruthless barbarians. He takes shelter in the mouth of a cave, then journeys deeper in the cavern where he awakes an eternal post-human sorcerer wielding the power of ancient magic. Taking a liking to the boyish intruder, the cloaked skeleton man takes Potter on as an apprentice, teaching him incantations and reanimation.

When the cave-dweller creeps out his pupil, Potter must duel with the reaper to escape.

Following a spate of singles and a full-length cassette, NTNB releases its inaugural LP, Nightmare Forever, Nov. 22 on psych/garage motherlode Castle Face Records. Label co-founder and Oh Sees chieftain Jon Dwyer writes his own adventure narrative in describing the sound of Austinites:

“The wizard’s gaze cast over a distant landscape. Bits of ash and motes of incinerated earth float in the air, the smell of ozone and fried metal sting the villager’s noses... but hope’s bell rings eternal. A flower of beauty is standing up in the sole ray of sun, the clouds are withering away, retreating back to dark cloaks behind crusted-over frost-fractal windows.

“Darkness cannot usurp the crown.

“Light is king and will eliminate the darkness, chase it out of the unfathomable corners and brush away the webs of evil. Remnant factions will always remain, but they will be hunted with pure magical riffage.”

The orchestra-like freak ensemble is currently wheels-to-the-road on an inaugural national run, hitting New Mexico, Arizona, Southern California, and Texas within the next week. The absolutely insane “Caberfae Peaks” video premieres right here:
