The fifth iteration of the Chronicle’s annual SXSW day party, Hair of the 3-Legged Dog, returns this year at a new location, East Austin’s beloved and raucous Hotel Vegas. Join our crew and our friends from Austin Pets Alive! on Fri., March 16, 1-5pm, for an excellent array of SXSW hangover cures: tacos, Bloody Marys, and live local music.
Get your RSVP in now to avoid that SXSW FOMO. And of course it’s free! Check out what our acclaimed music news columnist Kevin Curtin has to say about the artists on the bill:
The Deer (1:20-2pm): “Earthy and indie, transcendental folk fronted by Grace Rowland.”
Drakulas (2:20-3pm): “Fronted by Mike Wiebe from Riverboat Gamblers on vocals and Zach Blair from Rise Against/Gwar/Hagfish on guitar, the band wears turtlenecks and medallions. The idea is that they’re like a geeky gang from The Warriors. It’s only rock & roll, but the lyrics are kinda set in a grimy, late-Seventies, early-Eighties metropolis à la NYC in Taxi Driver.”
Blackillac (3:20-4pm): “A new supergroup of sorts from Austin-raised rappers Phranchyze and Zeale, whose forthcoming debut features beats and production by Gary Clark Jr.”
Yonatan Gat (4:20-5pm): “Guitarist for Israeli wild men Monotonix, Yonatan Gat now leads a trio that plays spazzy, jazzy, surfy, aggressive world music. They set up on the floor, never the stage.”
