Get on back to school with your queer self

BACK TO SCHOOL, FOOL So you've been back for a few weeks, now. You went to Target to decorate your dorm, you bought all that school mascot crap at the campus spirit store, you threw away your collection of empty Mickeys big mouths 'cause the man won't let you use them to line your windowsill at the dorm, and you fanned your mom when she fell over after paying for your textbooks. You're in, frosh. Now come the big steps: scoping the dorms, seeking for your tribe, looking for kids who wear their freak flags on their sleeves. Fortunately, queer and questioning kids have options these days. Most colleges and universities have gay-straight groups or at least diversity offices to help LGBTQ students find/make a community and feel safe and comfortable in their new homes. This week, we're listing area college gay groups. Keep an eye on "GP" over the next few weeks as we add more. And if you are a gay group or have gay events of interest to anyone, let us help you get the word out! Send us your info, stat! (Send info to gayplace@austinchronicle.com and see Community Listings.)

The Gay Place loves you; keep those cards and letters comin’.
