The sluggish Horns host Santa Barbara and Oral Roberts
By Mark Fagan, Fri., March 8, 2013
The streaky (and sluggish) Horns won five in a row from Feb. 17-24, lost four in a row (including a three-game sweep by Stanford) from Feb. 26-March 3, and broke that streak on Tuesday against Texas-Pan American winning 6-1 with second-bagger Brooks Marlow slamming their first homer of the season. It was UT's 12th game played. Junior outfielder Mark Payton leads the team in batting average, slugging, at bats, hits, triples, total bases, and RBIs while sophomore starting pitcher Parker French leads the squad with a 1.77 ERA and 14 strikeouts. UT is pitching well at home with a 2.33 ERA and opponents only hitting .234 against them. For out-of-towners, Disch-Falk Field is conveniently located in Central Austin and a nice respite from the madness. If you can't make it out in person, tune in to the Longhorn Network and AM 1300 the Zone.
Vs. Santa Barbara: Fri., March 8, 7pm; Sat., March 9, 2pm; Sun., March 10, noon. Vs. Oral Roberts: Tue., March 12, 6pm. UFCU Disch-Falk Field, 1300 E. MLK Blvd. $6-15. www.texassports.com.
