Open Screen Night

A cheap way to influence masses

Technically, it's like an open mic night, only for movies. But we like how the Alamo's Open Screen organizer Henri Mazza describes it better: "I think the whole thing is going to be a lot like that first kiss I had at the spin-the-bottle game in junior high: a little bit too wet, way too sloppy, and sort of embarrassing for everyone there, but at the same time we'll know that it's just the coolest thing ever." But it's only as cool as you make it: Bring whatever you want -- your latest Claymation masterwork, found tapes, humiliating home videos. Just make sure it's 10 minutes or less, on VHS or DVD, and good -- or at least entertaining; Mazza and co-emcee Tim Warden reserve the right to yank your movie if it's a yawner. Further incentive to razzle-dazzle the crowd: The audience's favorite walks home with $100.

Open Screen Night happens Friday, Nov. 22, 9:45pm, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (409 Colorado). Admission is $3. Proceeds benefit new publication Two Note Solo.
