Nintendo Gamecube
$199.95 On November 18, Nintendo launched their newest game console, the Gamecube, and with $98 million in sales (including games, etc.) the first day alone, it appears to be off to a great start. The GC is by far the most compact and attractive of the new generation of game consoles, especially compared to the awkward and noisy PlayStation2. But who cares what it looks like -- does it deliver the goods? With some interesting and fun launch titles like Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Madden 2002, and Luigi's Mansion, and a price tag $100 cheaper than the closest competition, it seems so. On a game like Madden 2002, the new controller initially feels awkward and somewhat unresponsive, but players adjust quickly and soon enjoy basically the same great football game featured on PlayStation systems. Star Wars: Rogue Leader appears to be the showcase game for the new GC. Highlighting all the superb features from the Nintendo 64 version, it now has much-improved graphics, sound, and gameplay, which makes this game a must-have for any GC owner. One drawback of the lower price is the lack of a DVD player; Nintendo also has a history of catering to the younger crowd with their game selection, but this could be a good way to keep adult owners and their little ones happy at the same time. With the nice price and a varied game selection, the GC could be a nice addition to your Xmas list.
