On July 1, 2006, APD Officer Gary Griffin's in-car video recorded his confrontation with Joseph Cruz at an East Austin bus stop. Posted here is a copy of that video, including the incident itself and the conversaton afterward.

On Dec. 3, 2007, hearing examiner Don B. Hays overturned interim APD Chief Cathy Ellison's Dec. 2006 decision to terminate Officer Gary Griffin. Hays ruled that Griffin could be returned to the force after retraining and possibly "sensitivity therapy." Posted here is the Hays Opinion (which incorporates the substantive sections of the Ellison decision memorandum).
