Don't look now, but boutique record stores, once as endangered a local species as certain salamanders, are making a comeback. To Sound on Sound and Shattered Music, now add End of an Ear, which former Thirty Three Degrees co-owner Dan Plunkett (above) and partner Blake Carlisle recently opened in the former Under the Sun art gallery at 2209 S. First. Though Plunkett says they won't be fully stocked until summer's end – they don't even have a sales counter yet – they've been able to scrape together enough of their and friends' vinyl, consignments, and drop-offs from local labels like Misra and Emperor Jones to open for business. As proof, the store hosts the first of what Plunkett hopes to be many in-stores 6pm Saturday with Rubble.
