Wednesday Picks & Sleepers

Did someone say that last week's South by Southwest "Picks to Click," local bands showcasing at SXSW 2001, was only the beginning? Sorry, our mistake. That would be this week's "Picks & Sleepers" for the Wednesday night showcases. "Recommended"-style blurbs for acts playing the music festival, "Pick & Sleepers" have become the Chronicle franchise in terms of getting out as much information as we possibly can on as many of the 900 or so bands playing in Austin starting next week. And when we say this issue's "Picks & Sleepers" are just the tip of the iceberg, believe us; next week's Austin Music Awards issue will feature our annual pull-out section with "Picks & Sleepers" for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night showcases. Some 20,000 words' worth. That's not counting SXSW record reviews, or band features for the Chronicle dailies that will be in production every night during the music festival. So, a correction from last week: This is only the beginning ...
