Hogg Auditorium

Opened in 1933, this Paul Cret-designed auditorium reflects the Beaux-Arts aesthetic of the architect’s master plan for UT. Hogg’s first event was a lecture by poet Robert Frost. The 1,200-seat venue hosted plays, concerts, and lectures for decades, but by the late Eighties, the building was primarily used for final exams and midnight showings of The Wall attended by stoned undergrads. A 1997 renovation restored Hogg’s performing arts pedigree. Gilberto Gil, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and Yo La Tengo have all made stops at Hogg since its rebirth.
