aGLIFF Announces Full Lineup

The Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival has announced the complete lineup for the 27th annual event, which takes place Sept. 10-14 at the newly renovated Alamo Darfthouse South Lamar.

The schedule includes more than 100 films that represent a broad range of narrative features, documentaries, and shorts. You can peruse the titles, as well as purchase badges on their website.

In keeping with this year’s festival theme – "We’re not an Audience. We’re a Community." – there’s something for everyone, with titles that speak to every facet of the LGBTQIA and ally communities in Austin and beyond. The narratives span a range from comedy to horror and come from all over the globe, and numerous films feature transgender characters. Also on tap is a secret screening of a critically acclaimed film, a 10th-anniversary screening of Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin starring Joseph Gordon Levitt, and a 20th-anniversary screening of Ed Wood starring Johnny Depp; as well a Family Film screening of the delightfully demented The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T from 1953.

Films hail from all corners of the U.S. and around the world, including the Netherlands, Brazil, Denmark, Switzerland, Israel, Mexico, Poland, and beyond. Many of the films have been award-winners on the festival circuit, including Tom at the Farm, which won the FIPRESCI Prize at last year’s Venice Film Festival, and whose director Xavier Dolan tied with Jean-Luc Godard for the Jury Prize at Cannes this year for his subsequent film Mommy.

aGLIFF (formerly Polari) is the oldest film festival in Austin and the largest and longest-running LGBT film festival in the Southwest. This year’s festival can be said to fulfill the organization’s stated mission “to build community and awareness through engaging, enlightening, and innovative film programming.”
