Fantastic Fest Announces Lineup

Here's looking at you, Uwe Boll

We've gotten so used to Fantastic Fest's yearlong programming – case in point, the July 29 sneak of Park Chan-Wook's Thirsty – that we'd plumb near forgot there was a whole week come September dedicated to cinema of the horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and catch-all cult bent. Forgot, that is, until fest heads released on Monday the first wave of the festival slate. Opening-night film Gentlemen Broncos goes light on gore; it's a comedy with sci-fi elements from Napoleon Dynamite writer/director Jared Harris and stars Sam Rockwell, Mike White, and Jemaine Clement. But have no fear, or rather, lots and lots of it: Among the 31 other titles announced, we've got J-horror aplenty; Cargo 200 director Aleksey Balabanov's follow-up Morphine; the sequel to French freak-out District 13, District 13 – Ultimatum; Uwe Boll's latest missive; and portrait-of-a-psychopath Bronson. On the subject of the latter, if you missed your morning coffee, Bronson's kicky, addictive trailer is a fine substitute.
