Salvage Vanguard scores a prestigious R&D grant, and Jenny Hart goes Gallic

Salvage Vanguard Theater was one of five theatre companies from around the country to land a six-figure grant in round two of the MetLife/Theatre Communications Group A-ha! Program: Think It, Do It. The program, which seeks to foster creative thinking and action among TCG member theatres, provides Think It grants for research and development of new ideas (up to $25,000) and Do It grants to support their implementation and testing (up to $50,000). SVT, a Think It recipient, will get funding to develop and test a business plan for a production element co-op, a venture co-conceived with the Rude Mechanicals to make flats, platforms, furniture, lighting, and costumes available for free or trade to Austin's small- to mid-size theatre companies.

Jenny Hart has gone, how you say, Gallic. The Austin seamstress fantastique has embroidered works in deux exhibitions of contemporary needlework in France this month: the group show "Fils Croisés" (Crossed Threads)" at the Galerie L.J. in Paris and the museum show "Sur le Fil – Deviant Textiles," which is launching a yearlong tour at the Maison Folie de Wazemmes in Lille. For more information, visit www.jennyhart.net. Hart's next stateside exhibition is a group show of embroidery art that she's curated titled "Over and Under," which runs Nov. 6-Dec. 6 at Yard Dog, 1510 S. Congress.
