Slow Money in Action in Austin
Promoting 'capital opportunities for local, organic, and sustainable food enterprises throughout Central Texas'
By Virginia B. Wood, Fri., April 9, 2010
Tasch will be back in town later this month to headline the Slow Money Austin Showcase, a collaborative effort of Slow Money Austin, the Sustainable Food Center, the city of Austin, and numerous small business sponsors. Slow Money Austin was formed to "promote capital opportunities for local, organic, and sustainable food enterprises throughout Central Texas," and this timely event is designed to highlight emerging investment opportunities throughout the entire regional food community. Event organizers hope to bring together "consumers, food businesses, civic leaders, and potential investors ... to learn about the regional farm-to-table-to-farm chain, and explore the funding alternatives essential to the continued growth of the regional food economy." The afternoon event in the Council Chambers at Austin City Hall will include speakers and informational panel discussions featuring a who's who of area food producers, business owners, and venture capitalists. The showcase will be followed immediately by a happy hour with local food items at Malverde (400-B W. Second) and the next evening by the Slow Money Showcase Dinner at the Barr Mansion & Artisan Ballroom (www.barrmansion.com).
