Dec. 8-19

Late-fall and early-winter food crops are in the fullness of their bounty just now, so what better time to celebrate Eat Local Week (Dec. 8-15)? Edible Austin magazine, the city of Austin, and the Greater Austin Area Restaurant Association join forces with area farmers, ranchers, and food producers to encourage Central Texans to partake of the bounty of local foods available during the holiday season. Area farmers' markets will offer local foods, as always, while participating restaurants will feature dishes prepared with local ingredients. A percentage of sales will benefit Urban Roots, a youth-development program where students learn the value of growing food and giving back to the community. The event kicks off at the Austin Farmers' Market (Fourth & Guadalupe) from 9am to noon, Saturday, Dec. 8, and continues all week. For info and a list of participating markets and restaurants, call 441-3971 or see www.edibleaustin.com.
The Falls Bistro & Wine Cellar (202 Main St. in Marble Falls, 830/265-4580) is the hottest new dining destination in Marble Falls. Check them out at a five-course vintner dinner featuring the Texas wines of Alamosa Cellars. $100 per person, all inclusive, reservations required. See the menu at www.thefallsbistro.com. Monday, Dec. 10, 6pm.
Finish out a year of UnWine Wednesdays at the Belmont (305 W. Sixth, 457-0300) with Crisp & Clean Whites on Dec. 12 and California Bubbles on Dec. 19. The UnWine Wednesdays 2008 Relaunch Party will be on Jan. 23.
