Día de los Muertos Celebration

MexicArte Museum (419 Congress, 480-9373) commemorates Día de los Muertos with a parade and celebration on Friday, Nov. 1. The annual parade of floats and decorated automobiles begins at 6pm at Plaza Saltillo (East Sixth & Comal), proceeds west on Sixth to Congress, and concludes with a reception from 7 to 9pm outside the museum where a block of Fifth Street will be closed for the festivities. The street closing will allow parade participants to park their cars within the enclosure so guests can check them out. Activities during the celebration will include viewing of an ofrenda inside the museum, traditional foods such as tamales and pan de muerto, live music from Johnny Degollado y su Conjunto, theatrical performances by Texas Youthful Creations and Nushank Theater Collective, children's entertainment, and creations by local artists elray, Xavier Garza, Jennifer Rodriguez, Federico Archuleta, and Ines Batllo. Sponsored by Dell Computers and Kinko's, the party is free to the public.
