Be Fair to Teachers

RECEIVED Thu., May 2, 2013

Dear Editor,
I am one of the fortunate ones that retired at age 58, after 36 years of teaching [“New System Shortchanges Teachers,” Postmarks, May 3]. I found out that I had colon cancer and retired in 2011. I know we are living longer than we used to but, after teaching for 36 years, I was ready to retire and let younger, more energetic teachers have my job. I loved my job, so it would not be fair to teachers that have worked so hard not to retire if they need to.
