No Difference Between Democrats and Republicans on War

RECEIVED Mon., June 6, 2011

Dear Editor,
Re: “Obama Either a Republican Plant or a Jellyfish” [“Postmarks,” June 3]: I am not sure what James Walk's letter means, but he seems to think that the Democratic Party is an anti-war party. Where would he get that notion? Every Democrat president for the last 100 years has been a warmonger. Just as World War I was about to end Woodrow Wilson broke his solemn promise to keep us out of the European madness and declared war. Ten million more people had to die so that progressive Democrats could bring democracy to the world. When Obama announced that he had begun bombing Lybia, he said that he had to act fast because the civil war in Lybia would have ended in 48 hours if we didn't get involved.
Obama has now dropped more bombs and killed more people than any Nobel Peace Prize winner in history. Before his election, Obama said that his stance toward Iran was, "Nothing is off the table,” the exact same thing Bush said. (Meaning that a surprise nuclear attack was on the table.) Clinton dropped bombs on Iraq more than 1,000 days. Carter started the war in Afghanistan in 1979. LBJ ….
There is no difference whatsoever between the Democrat and Republican wings of the war party.
Sincerely,
Vince May
