Sad About Clinton's Fate

RECEIVED Wed., May 14, 2008

Dear Editor,
At this time, it’s doubtful that Sen. Hillary Clinton will be able to compete for the presidency. And I am very sad.
I have two important observations that have been swirling in my mind for some time:
First, Sen. Clinton deserves a great deal of credit for breaking the glass ceiling. Affirmative action includes women! Conversely, why did so many female civil servants come out early and endorse Barack Obama? The list includes governors, senators, and House members – Gov. Janet Napolitano, Arizona; Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Kansas; Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota; Sen. Clair McCaskill, Missouri; and Gov. Chris Gregoire, Washington, to name a few. Some of these women were just elected to high office, probably with Sen. Clinton setting the pace. Why did these women not support their own gender?
Second, there is no question that Sen. Clinton is better qualified to lead this nation. So many prominent Democrats support Barack Obama (some very early), and I can’t help wondering if they know something we don’t. Do they envision an Obama presidency that can be manipulated to embrace democratic philosophies?
I, along with many others, have waited eight years to see a Democrat assume the highest office in the land. I hope the Democratic Party will not let us down – if we win.
