Dear Editor, Michael Ventura's recent columns [“Letters @ 3am,” Sept. 30 and Oct. 14] draw, as did Maryland congressman Roscoe Bartlett's presentation to the joint house of Congress, directly from a recent book on the peak oil phenomenon, titled The Oil Age Is Over, by Matt Savinar. The predictions in Savinar's book are very sobering; dire, to say the least. Yet, we have run out of cheap energy even though we live a lifestyle based on it always being available. A wrong assumption. A search of the Internet for peak oil will be a gut-wrenching read for anyone willing to risk it. But, read it we must. It is our future. We need to act now, because we are virtually out of time to avoid a rapidly approaching national crisis. Read it and weep ... then, get busy.
