A Sad Day When Vets Turn on Each Other

RECEIVED Tue., Aug. 24, 2004

Dear Editor,
As a Vietnam veteran, and Republican voter, I am ashamed of the Swift Boat Veterans. How can they possibly be anything but radical far-right activists? How can a veteran support a guy who dodged Vietnam service by joining the National Guard, the known dodge in the Sixties? When the war was over, he didn't need the guard and just quit reporting for duty!
The problem with our party is it has strayed too far from the Thomas Jefferson principals of small government. The far right has co-opted the mainstream, just like radical liberals co-opted the Democrats. It's a sad day when one vet turns on another. Why not fight politicians who make stupid decisions that cost military men their lives?
