Other Worlds Wants You to Hear You Say "Rarrrgh!"

SF film festival wants your best Wookie roar for May the 4th

"Sand People: The Musical," one of the shorts in Other Worlds Film Festival's Star Wars day playlist

It's Star Wars day, and even though we are all still connected by fandom and the Force, this year's pandemic lockdown has made us all a little more remote than ever. However, Austin's own science fiction film festival, Other Worlds, still wants us to come together.

The festival's been holding a special Star Wars day celebration (May the Fourth, get it?) since 2015, and even though the theaters are closed, that isn't stopping them bringing the community together through an online celebration.

First of all, the team has a curated a list of the best Star Wars fan films from around the web, from drama to comedy to hilarious culture jam remixes. Fan films have long been a part of Star Wars culture, often with the blessing of Lucasfilm, and this selection shows how much those films have inspired creativity in those that love them.

Catch all 10 films below or over at YouTube, and then head over to Other Worlds' Twitter feed and pick your favorite.

Voting is open until 9pm, and the winner will be announced tonight at 10pm, but that's not the only competition going on.

• There's a special costume competition, and whether you have a custom-made suit of Stormtrooper armor or you're using vacuum cleaner hoses to make Twi'lek tentacles, post a picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with the words #May4atHome on it to the event Facebook page using the hashtag #May4atHome. Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume and Most Resourceful, and kids and pets are encouraged to enter.

• Alternatively, you can always take place in the Wookie mating call competition. Throw your head back and give it your best in Shyriiwook - again, post a video of yourself on the event Facebook page tagged with #May4atHome.
