Late summer arthouse darling Drive drove the kids wild (and sometimes drove them to bizarre acts of derring-do). SXSW Film is catching the Drive wave with its just-announced conference session with Drive's composer, A Conversation with Cliff Martinez.

Martinez, former drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies, scored Drive , as well as a raft of Steven Soderbergh pictures (Contagion, Traffic, Solaris, etc.).

The Martinez chat is just one of almost 40 conference sessions announced today by SXSW Film. Culled from proposals to the festival's PanelPicker interface, the panels range from trendspotting (The Evolution of the Douchebag in Modern Cinema, In Search of the Muslim Sassy Gay Friend) to practical advice for filmmakers (In The Cut: Editing a Killer Editing Sample – that one was proposed former Austinite Kyle Henry – and Casting on a Budget: Get the Best and the Rightest) to new media issues (In The Cloud: Your Film in a Post-Ownership World, WTFair Use?! An Interactive Fair-Use Workshop, Arts Criticism 140 Characters at a Time).

Another 14 Convergence sessions were announced; Convergence panels emphasize the cross-pollination between Film and Interactive. Austin-based Convergence speakers include Austin Kleon and Flow Nonfiction's David Modigliani and Matt Naylor.
