Where the Girls Go/ATX: What Day Is It? Edition
Rounding up the best grrrl-oriented happenings all weekend long
By Sarah Marloff, 1:30PM, Fri. Aug. 8, 2014
Today is the kind of Friday where I can’t tell if the week flew by, or crawled zombie-like towards its end. Regardless of how we got here, we have arrived. Clearly, that means it’s time to round up the best of the best queer events happening inside Austin city limits this weekend.
Friday: Get out of your world tonight, and step inside the (possibly) enchanted forest of Noctuary. That's right, installation artist, Gigi Grinstad has turned the Little Pink Monster Gallery into an indoor forest. There will be drinks, there will be snacks – nuts and berries, perhaps? – and some additional art by Katie Rose Pipkin.
Suggestion: Once again, let's all play nice and tip the tender who serves your treats.
Saturday: Ready to get wet tonight? OK, pull your mind out of the gutter, because we're talking about beards, for the First Annual Wet Beard Contest. And now you're stoked right? The queers' response to the wet T-shirt contest will be judged by the one and only Uršulinka Lucadevjic, with DJ Divorcee turning down for no one.
Suggestion: For all the (literal) shorties reading – come early for a seat with a view.
Sunday: Today, get grounded. Bookwoman hosts her monthly BookGoddess Book Group at 1pm, then align yourself with queer moon yoga as the sun goes down.
Suggestion: Take it easy today. There's a lot on the horizon.
