Where the Girls Go/ATX: Bucket List

Where to find the grrrls and bois of ATX this weekend

Spring in Austin sure is like summer in normal cities. Forgive me, Texas. I'm not used to this. I mean, San Francisco sees maybe half-a-dozen 80 degree days all year. Maybe. What I’m trying to say is, it’s going to be a long, hot summer. So let's break out our queer summer bucket list, cuz who knows the next time we’ll drop below 70? October? November? December?

Friday: See a Satanic Lesbian Heavy Metal BandCHECK!
Only in Austin, right? Except this trio – dubbed BugGIRL – is part Australian, part Texan. Either way, they're headlining tonight at Badlands in honor of their new album, Lesbians for Satan. Langton Drive and Heather Go Psycho open.

Suggestion: Recruit and convert at your own risk.

Saturday: Revisit Your Favorite Fairy Tales as Performed by Drag KingsCHECK!
Yes, Austin's Kings N Things invite you to eat cake and celebrate their birthday with Fuck*d Up Fairy Tales. Okay, they didn't actually mention cake, but they do promise performances by Queertini Time, Althea Trix, Pillow Princess, and Fat Bottom Cabaret.

Suggestion: Bring cake! Or cash, cover is $5-7 sliding scale.

Sunday: Go to Bookwoman for a Book LaunchCHECK!
Yup, this Sunday, author and poet, Debra L. Winegarten is coming to town. She's talking about her newest biography on Texas' own Oveta Culp Hobby. Winegarten will be signing books alongside an array of food and drink.

Suggestion: Buy a book! And pay attention! You might just learn something about an inspiring Texan.

'Til next week!
