Why, He's Not Even Wearing Loafers

What's gayer than a cabaret?

Why, He's Not Even Wearing Loafers

We love when other sections of the Chronicle seem gayer than ours. It really takes a load off.

To wit: This week's cover is a glorious portrait of Stuart Moulton, the man (and apparently toenails) behind Austin Cabaret Theatre. As we say in our Gay Place listing for Stuart's blog: "What's gayer than a cabaret? Not much." Well, maybe that "French Tuxedo" pedicure he's sporting on the cover.

Robert Faires' interviews with both Stuart and with upcoming Austin Cabaret guest diva Elaine Stritch are both a hoot and a half. We especially like, in Robert's piece on Stuart, the part where Stritchy sets a pretty high bar of lavish praise. Stuart is, according to Stritch (the italics are ours for emphasis):

"One of the loveliest guys I've met in a long time. I see something very rare in this guy. He's a kind, gentle sweetheart of a guy. And funny. And I don't know anybody that's that light in the loafers. In my whole life, I've never met anybody as gay as Stuart. Never!"

Robert has hinted that there is a slew of interview left over from the Elaine Stritch chat. Should that become a Web Xtra within the next few days, we will link to it from here.

NOTE: We've been made aware of a printer foul-up. Seems that in the paper Chronicle that hit the stands today, the second page of the interview with Stuart was not printed. For those of you scratching your heads over the print edition, head over to the full article online.
