Vann Against Adan

Precinct two constable slot now officially a race.

While we at the newsdesk try to keep an eye on every significant state and local race in the next election, some may slip through the cracks. So this morning Bob Vann, constable for Travis County Precinct 2, gave us a quick call. The Republican incumbent phoned to tell us that he had indeed handed his paperwork on the very first day of filing.

That means he'll be going up against his own deputy constable, Democrat Adan Ballesteros, which makes it kinda like a primary. Vann has been P2 constable since 1996, most recently seeing off a primary challenge from Carl Joiner in 2004 before skipping to an uncontested win that November. But he is one of the last Republican elected officials in, and the only one of the five Travis constables not a Democrat.
