Blind Pets’ Slideshow Shenanigans

Austin rockers’ iPhone travelogue

Camera phones empowered everyone to become pocket documentarians, resulting in viral recordings of police brutality, cat videos, and an endless stream of WordStarHipHop street fights. Local stoner grunge firebrands the Blind Pets employed their iPhones to capture all the hijinks of a recent coast-to-coast tour.

Like the rock & roll version of a family vacation slideshow, the music video for “Everybodies,” a final single from 2014’s Heavy Petting, compiles the highest times of the Pets’ tour excursion into a four-minute travelogue. The sequence rolls clips of van shenanigans, performance highlights, ample marijuana smoking, slight male nudity, and some really beautiful nature scenes. Blind Pets frontman Joshua Logan admits the footage isn’t exactly a thorough representation of life on tour.

“It’s more like the cream filling,” he says. “It shows all the good stuff: the camaraderie between musicians, playing amazing gigs, making friends, being ridiculous, and getting stoned all over the country. It doesn’t have any footage of the load-in, load-out, or trying to get paid at the end of the night.”

The Blind Pets’ fifth LP, arriving early next year on Sup Bob Records, is currently being mastered by Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures guitarist Alain Johannes. You can catch the Austin threesome Friday night at Swan Dive playing with resurrected southern pop outfit Bobby Jealousy.
