Where the Girls Go/ATX: Music & Movies Edition

Dancin', jammin', or watchin' – this weekend is a queer smorgasbord

Stargayzer and aGLIFF in the same weekend! It’s a cross between heavenly queerness overload, and a cruel game of pick and choose. With that in mind, I’ll try my best not to overwhelm with even more lady/queer-tastic events, but either way, you’re probably going need a power nap after work to rockstar-it through this weekend.

Friday: The way I see it, you have two options depending on your mood and your money – Stargayzer starts at 4pm with some of our fave local DJS, Mouthfeel & Bloodkisses. Folowed by Pop-punk rockers Bitter Heart Society, BLXPLTN, Poo Poo Platter, Big Dipper – the acts are endless. As will be the sea of queers. Luckily, aGLIFF (that’s the Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival) does offer individual tickets so you can pick and choose.

Suggestion: If you make it to the movies today, I suggest the documentary on Gender Outlaw, goddess, and savior Kate Bornstein. Kate Bornstein is a Queer & Pleasant Danger at 5:30.

Saturday: Yes, another day of apples and bananas. That queer music festival features the ever-awesome DJs GirlFriend and Malika, not to mention Big Freedia – as in the Big Freedia. Get ready to bounce. If you're broke, or stayin' a bit more low-key, try Cheer Ups for their double-trouble party – bands outside, DJs Chelsea Starr and Zak Morri$ inside. And of course, it's aGLIFF's second to last day.

Suggestion: Be it CUC or Stargayzer, make sure to dance to Chelsea Starr. This DJ is the bananas, and I definitely had my first lady DFM at her Hot Pants party way back in San Francisco. She's that good, and she's in town from PDX.

Sunday: Good news - delirium should be setting in by now, so you'll be able to power through today. aGLIFF calls it a wrap, and Stargayzer goes out with a bang. From the grubby fingertips of our very own Kate X Messer and Andy Campbell, DJs Fine and Dandy will be spin on the Aurora stage as you enter beginning around noon and going til 2:30pm. My personal queer icon, JD Samson, will be singing, and AUSTRA will clearly be amazing. Again, for more drinking, less singing, there's a lez-esque bar crawl taking over, right around the corner along East Sixth.

Suggestion: See at least one film, you'll slap yourself later if you don't.

You can't possibly want more?! But just in case, The Gay Place is here for you. Come Monday - sleep. You gotta be rested for Pride next week, bbs.
