Texas Book Festival 2019: The Full Lineup

Malcolm Gladwell, Sonia Sotomayor, John Grisham, and 300 more

What do the creator of the 10,000 hour rule, a Supreme Court Justice, and The Daily Show's former resident deranged millionaire have in common? Malcolm Gladwell, Sonia Sotomayor, and John Hodgman will all be at the 2019 Texas Book Festival, along with over 300 other authors, all of whom have been announced.

The Lone Star State's annual bibliophilic extravaganza is set for Sat., Oct 26 and Sun., Oct. 27 on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol and environs, and you can expect the authors to cover almost every kind of book people read.

Among the marquee guests are the king of the reigning lord of legal thrillers, John Grisham, promoting his new book The Guardians; former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and human rights adviser to Pres. Obama Samantha Power, featuring her memoir, The Education of an Idealist; historian and National Book Award winner Ibram X. Kendi, bringing his book How to Be an Antiracist; Houston native Attica Locke, discussing her new novel Heaven, My Home, a sequel to the East Texas mystery Bluebird, Bluebird; and celebrated graphic novelists Chris Ware and Seth will attend, the former bringing his new release Rusty Brown and the latter showcasing his latest, Clyde Fans.

As for Gladwell, Sotomayor, and Hodgman …
• the 10,000 hour rule man will be telling us about Talking to Strangers: What We Should Know About the People We Know;
• Justice Sotomayor has authored a new children's book: Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You;
• the former deranged millionaire/comedian will be sharing Medallion Status: True Stories From Secret Rooms.

Austin will be well represented, as well, with Oscar Cásares discussing his acclaimed novel Where We Come From, Elizabeth McCracken discussing her Bowlaway, Michael Parker discussing his Prairie Fever, and Thomas Zigal discussing his, Outcry Witness; barbecue superstar Aaron Franklin stepping away from the pit for his guide to Franklin Steak; Karen Olsson sharing her new meditation on mathematics, The Weil Conjectures; award-winning historian H.W. Brands with his new history of the American West, Dreams of El Dorado; psychologist Art Markman with his Bring Your Brain to Work; Chandler Baker with her white-hot debut thriller The Whisper Network and thriller veteran Mark Pryor with his The Book Artist; science fiction/fantasy author Nikki Drayden with Escaping Exodus; and recent UT Michener Center for Writers grad Lara Prescott with her debut novel, The Secrets We Kept.

And it wouldn't be a Texas Book Festival without books about Texas, and this year there's a doozy leading the pack: Stephen Harrigan's epic history of the Lone Star State, Big Wonderful Thing. Between its covers, the book manages to encompass Comanche warriors, Spanish explorers, American expansionists, settlers, soldiers, artists, and activists, and everyone who contributed to this place being what it is.

Of course, with a list that exceeds 300, that's just scratching the surface of this year's lineup. You'll also have plenty of authors of memoirs, graphic novels, cookbooks, YA novels, political books, children's books, music books, art books, and so much more.

The 2019 TBF will launch, as usual, with the First Edition Literary Gala, held this year on Fri., Oct. 25, at the Four Seasons Hotel.
