Austin Jewish Book Fair

By Kimberley Jones, Fri., Nov. 4, 2011

A list of what to look for at this year's Austin Jewish Book Fair would surely start with The List, the debut novel from Martin Fletcher, the former NBC News bureau chief in Tel Aviv. Fletcher, who will be the featured guest at Sunday morning's Bagels, Books and News brunch, based the book on his parents' experience as Austrian refugees in post-World War II London.

Other highlights from the AJBF, which runs Nov. 3-12, include Wednesday evening's Treasure and Trash program with Alicia Oltuski (Precious Objects: A Story of Diamonds, Family, and a Way of Life) and Adina Hoffman and Peter Cole (Sacred Trash: The Lost and Found World of the Cairo Geniza), as well as Thursday evening's conversation with Wired's Steven Levy (In the Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives). To celebrate the Global Day of Jewish Learning, the fair culminates in Sunday's series of sessions on foundational Jewish texts (registration required). For the full lineup, as well as ticket information for select events, see www.shalomaustin.org/bookfair.
