* THU, JUN 20: Short-story writer Laurie Drummond will share her Ruminations on the Writing Life at the Austin Writers' League meeting at 7pm at the First Unitarian Church; open to the public.

* FRI, JUN 21: Dr. Ed Hallowell, in town for an Attention Deficit Disorder workshop at the Paramount, will drop by Barnes & Noble to sign and discuss his new book, When You Worry About the Child You Love, 7-8:30pm.

* SAT, JUN 22: Borders Books will host a panel titled The Selena Trial Revisited at 7:30pm. The panel will feature presiding judge Mike Westergren of the 214th District Court, Nueces County District Attorney Carlos Valdez, chief prosecutor Mark Skurka, Yolanda Saldivar's defense
attorney Douglas Tinker, and Texas Monthly senior editor/Selena: Como la Flor author Joe Nick Patoski, and will discuss issues and events surrounding the Tejano singer's tragic murder.

* SUN, JUN 23: Bill Crider and Carolyn Banks will appear at Adventures in Crime & Space to sign copies of their books (The Prairie Chicken Kill and Death on the Diagonal, respectively), 4-6pm... Brad Watson, a featured author in Barnes & Noble's nationwide Discover program, will be at that store to read from his Last Days of the Dog-Men, a collection of stories about "people and dogs: dogs as companions, as accomplices, and as unwitting victims of human passions." The reading will be 2-3pm.

* WED, JUN 26: A reception to benefit Mexic-Arte Museum will be held at the museum (419 Congress), 5:30-9pm, and will celebrate the opening of the Library of the Consulate General of México, now on permanent loan; $10 admission. Call 480-9373.

* ONGOING: Half Price Books has produced a children's short-story collection titled Say Goodnight to Illiteracy, the proceeds of which, as you might have guessed, will benefit literacy programs. The 22 stories, selected from over 1,000 entries in a "Bedtime Story Contest," includes "The Boy Who Couldn't Go to Sleep" by Austinite Lloyd Mardis. Entries for the 1997 volume will be accepted this fall, due by Tue, Dec 31, 1996. Say Goodnight retails at Half Price locations for $2.98... The Austin Writers' League and Borders Books will host a creative writing camp for students in grades 6-8, Mondays, 9am-1pm, Jul. 15-Aug. 5. Camp tuition is $20, and slots are limited. Call the AWL at 499-8914... Ten literary agents on the lookout for new projects will participate in an Austin Writers' League Conference titled Agents! Agents! Agents!,
Aug. 2-4. The AWL is now taking reservations; participants desiring a private

Aug. 16... Eve Arnold: In Retrospect, a touring exhibition honoring the famed photojournalist, is on display in the Leeds Gallery on the fourth floor of the Flawn Academic Center (UT Campus) through Aug. 30; the exhibit features over 150 photographs...
