ACL Music Fest Swap-Outs

Two-weekend music festival earmarks 33 bands for single sets

ACL weekend two only: Sons of Fathers
ACL weekend two only: Sons of Fathers

Monday’s report from C3 Presents suggested that the lineup for the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October would feature the same talent both weekends. A change to the festival’s website now reveals 33 acts that will play only once during the two-weekend party.

Seventeen bands showing up for week one will head home after Sunday‘s headliner, with another 16 taking their place a week later. Locals make up the majority of one-show acts, with week one’s tally including Dana Falconberry, Bobby Jealousy, Max Frost, the Jacuzzi Boys, and blues badasses the Peterson Brothers.

Week two lists Shakey Graves, Not in the Face, My Jerusalem, Sons of Fathers, Whiskey Shivers, and the Preservation. At the same time, a few touring acts give credence to the sensibility of using some discretion when deciding on a weekend, like UtopiaFest vets Houndmouth, Nashville DJ Wick-it the Instigator – both week one – and soul shouters the Dynamites feat. Charles Walker on the second go-round.

How will this affect your ticket purchases? Note that tickets for this year’s ACL come in packages of 3-Day, VIP, and Travel. No single day options exist in this two-week world. Neither do hypothetical six-day passes that would last throughout both weekends. You’re either there for the weekend or at home waiting on the next one, though you can, of course, buy two sets of three-day passes for each weekend.

Your call. Just so long as you don‘t go to week one looking for an act resigned to week two.
