Big Names Headed to Round Rock
Bob Schneider and Manny Ramirez to play at the Dell
By Mark Fagan, Fri., May 18, 2012
Combining two of Austin's greatest loves – sports and music – local tunesmith Bob Schneider will perform following Saturday's Round Rock Express game vs. the San Francisco Giants' AAA affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies. Schneider has won an obscene amount of Austin Music Awards (20-plus), dated Hollywood starlets (Sandra Bullock), and released album after album of crowd-pleasing KGSR-friendly tunes, including his latest, 2011's A Perfect Day for Kirtland Records. In other Express news, Manny Ramirez (pictured) – currently serving a 50-game big-league suspension – will be playing with the Sacramento RiverCats at the Dell in their series next Monday through Thursday. A personal favorite of mine for his lackadaisacal attitude toward pretty much anything but raking at the plate, Ramirez boasts Hall of Fame numbers (.312 career batting average, 555 home runs), is a 12-time All-Star, and has the best dreads in the game. He's due to return to The Show with the Oakland A's May 30 in Minnesota. It's a rare treat to be able to watch such a legendary player in the relatively initmate confines of the Dell Diamond.
