'Excuse Me, Form-Based What?'

Draft vision for the local business zone along upper Airport Boulevard
Draft vision for the local business zone along upper Airport Boulevard

With national experts in town for a two-day Form-Based Codes Institute training (www.formbasedcodes.org), the city of Austin has organized this public event, a panel offering "insight on best practices across the country" in urban design, followed by a "community conversation about form-based code planning in Austin." Expect a focus on the Upper Airport Boulevard plan, which is being touted as the test case for a bold new vision for the city's urban planning efforts – trying to define zoning by building type and design characteristics, rather than strictly by use. Monday, May 21. Reception, 5:45pm; panel discussion, Q&A, and open dialogue, 6:15-7:30pm. Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd.
