Controlled Chaos

A Weekend in Austin still moshes

Wedged between Argentina and the Pacific Ocean, Chile has grown to a nation of over 17 million. Like any predominantly Catholic country, it lends itself to death metal. Two acts from Rancagua, south of the country's capital, rip Red 7's stage Wednesday in support of Russian headliners Pseudogod. Morbid threesome Wrathprayer offers its 2012 exultation of life and death, The Sun of Moloch, soon consuming a stage at Maryland Deathfest alongside doom veterans My Dying Bride. On its way to Oakland with Wrathprayer, Diabolical Messiah wraps its death metal in sulfuric Satanism. The trio's 2010 LP, Satan Tottendemon Victory!!!, unleashed a 25-minute curse, followed by last year's Embrace the Advance of Victory collaboration with Swarm of Terror, their neighbors to the north.
