SXSW Goes to the Movies

There should be enough music at the Music Festival for you, but in case there isn't, the SXSW Film Conference & Festival is touting the remixed and remastered Martin Scorsese opus The Last Waltz, the filmed record of The Band's last performance in 1976, which influenced all concert films that followed and inspired a post-SXSW re-enactment at the Hole In the Wall last year, starring everyone from Paul Minor to Dennis Quaid. Music Conference keynote speaker Robbie Robertson will be introducing the screening Friday, March 15, at the Paramount Theatre. What else?:
1 Giant Leap, in which two filmmakers travel the globe recording the sounds and images of some of the leading cultural minds on Earth.
Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns), the history of They Might Be Giants.
Money for Nothing, a look at the corporatization of the modern music industry.
Soulshine, directed by Mike Gordon of Phish, wherein 25 bass players come together to record a tribute to late Allman Brothers/Gov't Mule bassist Allen Woody.
Tribute, in which filmmakers follow a group of dedicated tribute bands.
Welcome to the Club: The Women of Rockabilly, featuring Brenda Lee and Wanda Jackson.
And more, possibly including filmed odes to Kinky Friedman and Fat Possum -- the record company, not something Kinky couldn't eat cuz it wasn't kosher.
